    At the edge of Mooncup Reef, something blinked behind a fan of purple coral. Lumi pressed her bubble helmet close, and Pip’s nose made a small foggy star on his glass. The glow blinked again—warm, round, and shy as a secret.

    The whole reef answered with a low, velvety hum. Tiny fish paused in mid-swim, and sea anemones opened like sleepy fireworks. Lumi held Pip’s fin so they would not drift away, because the sound felt like a path made of music.

    From the coral shadows rolled a pearl lantern, no bigger than a melon, wearing a trembly silver glow. Pip waved with both forepaws. “You’re late for the festival!” The lantern dimmed, then brightened, as if it wanted help but was scared to ask.
