   The fair was bright and busy. Noor stayed close to Auntie while music danced through the air.

   A visitor pointed toward a puppy. “You can watch from here, with Auntie.” Noor looked to Auntie first.

   Noor's tummy felt wobbly. Her body was saying, “Pause.”

   Noor stepped back. She remembered: I do not go anywhere without checking with my grown-up.

   “No, thank you,” Noor said. Her voice was small but clear. “I need to find Auntie.”

   Noor walked toward the sunny flower stall. She kept her feet moving toward a safe grown-up.

   “Auntie, I saw a puppy near the fair stall. I stayed with you and checked first.” Noor told the whole story.

   “I am glad you checked with me,” Auntie said. “You made a thoughtful choice.” Noor felt proud.

   Auntie pointed to the smiling flower seller, and they stayed where Auntie could see. Noor's shoulders relaxed.

    Stop. Step back. Say no. Find my grown-up. Noor carried the safety steps in her brave voice.

    Noor made a picture of the people who care for her: Auntie, Dad, Grandma, and Teacher.

    “What if I feel unsure?” Noor asked. Dad answered, “You can come to us and tell the whole story.”

    Noor practised stepping back and using her clear voice. Practice made the words easier to find.
