   At the edge of Grandma’s garden, one old banyan tree blinked like it had swallowed a handful of stars. Milo stopped with one sneaker in the mint patch. Ember’s ears sprang up, and his golden pendant gave a tiny answering twinkle.

   Between two curled roots, a round door no bigger than Milo’s lunch plate sighed open. Warm air drifted out, smelling of moss, honey, and rain. “Do you think it’s inviting us?” Milo whispered, and Ember padded closer without stepping inside.

   Inside, the forest had folded itself tiny and bright. Acorn stools circled a puddle-smooth floor, and leaf hammocks hung from violet stems. Dozens of fireflies rested there, their lights pulsing faintly, like sleepy lanterns trying not to go out.

   A silver moth in a bluebell cap fluttered down, carrying a thimble of dew. “Welcome, tall visitors,” she said softly. “Our fireflies flew all night guiding lost beetles home. They need help, but gentle help—each one knows what feels best.”

   Milo’s backpack bounced as he opened it. “I have bandages, a snack, and my best dragon sticker!” he said, reaching toward the nearest firefly. The little light tucked itself deeper into its leaf blanket, and Milo’s smile wobbled with surprise.

   Inside, the clinic smelled of rain, moss, and warm honey. Fireflies rested in walnut-shell beds, their lights blinking slowly like sleepy stars, while Milo tiptoed so carefully that his backpack hardly rustled. Ember whispered, “They look like they’re dreaming with lanterns on.”

   A very dim firefly wobbled near the edge of its little bed, and Milo’s heart jumped forward faster than his feet. “I can help,” he said, scooping a fern blanket up to tuck it in. The firefly’s glow flickered once, then hid under its wings.

   Milo tucked the blanket all the way to the firefly’s chin, then added a petal pillow and a drop of nectar beside it. The bed tipped with a soft plop into the moss below. The firefly buzzed in a dizzy circle, not hurt, but clearly not pleased.

   Ember’s ears dipped. “Maybe it wanted a little room,” he murmured. Milo crouched until his eyes were level with the firefly’s tiny glow and kept his hands still. “I’m sorry,” he said softly. “What kind of help would feel good?”

    The firefly blinked twice toward the fallen bed, then once toward Milo’s open palm. Milo didn’t scoop or grab; he made his hand into a quiet bridge. Step by glowing step, the firefly climbed back home, and Ember’s pendant shone like it was proud.
